Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

Experience top-tier cleaning with the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra, boasting the standout Ultra Station.

Enhanced automation and quality set this model apart from its predecessor, the S7 series.

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra makes a bold promise: "Forget cleaning - really!" and it does a good job living up to that.

This robot cleaner is packed with top-notch features, with the Ultra Station being the star. ⭐️

This handy station does four things for you:

  • Cleans the mop
  • Dries the mop
  • Empties the mobile dust tank
  • Refills the water tank

functions of the ultra station

Essentially, it makes daily cleaning mostly hands-off. ✋🏻

It's evident that the makers have taken the best parts of their older models and added some neat improvements.

Highlights include a new way to dry the mop, an improved brush system, better obstacle detection, and two mop settings for a thorough clean.

This model feels more like a polished version of the previous ones rather than a brand-new invention.

During our tests, its wiping function worked extremely well. 🧽

Its strong suction was commendable too.

On the downside, its side brush could be better on carpets and edges, and the use of throwaway dust bags seems a bit old-fashioned.

Plus, it's on the pricier side. 🤑

So, if you're after the latest in robot cleaning and don't mind the cost, this is a great pick.

But if you're looking to save a bit, considering the slightly older S7 series might be a good idea.

Ecovacs Deebot X1 OMNI

An impressive mopping performance is one of the highlights of this luxury household helper.

The cleaning station and the rotating mopping pads ensure your home will be as clean as a whistle.

The Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni has many highlights. One of them is its mopping capabilities. 💧

Let’s have a look at the role the station plays in the cleaning process. After a predetermined interval (10, 15 or 25 minutes), the two mopping pads are wrung out and rinsed at the station.

Cleaning of mopping pads

The two Ecovacs Deebot X1 OMNI mop pads are washed and wrung out at the cleaning station.

Dirty water

The dirty water tank and the fresh water tank of the Ecovacs Deebot X1 OMNI are being held

The benefit here is that your floors are always cleaned with freshly rinsed mop cloths. The collected dirt ends up in the dirty water tank (and not on your floors).

Furthermore, the mobile water tank is refilled at the all-in-one station.

Thus, you are also spared this (annoying) task.

The two mopping pads rotate in opposite directions, creating a "scrubbing effect". This results in a more thorough cleaning of your home. 🧼

And don't forget: when the job is done, the two pads are blown dry at the station (with hot air). 🍃

The two mopping pads of the Ecovacs Deebot X1 OMNI are seen from below

All these functions together mean that the wet floor cleaning process runs almost completely independently, so you can sit back and relax. 🏖️

And the mopping performance also impressed us. 👇

(Even if stubborn, dried-in stains take a bit more effort).

The combination of an impressive mopping ability and a huge range of other premium features makes the Deebot X1 a compelling option.

However, only if you have the necessary funds: because the price will set you back a bit... 💸

Advantages:

Greatly improved mopping ability

Mopping pads are automatically wrung out, rinsed and dried at the station

Water tank is refilled automatically

Auto-empty station

Can detect objects even in poor lighting conditions

Floor cleaning (vacuuming and mopping) is mostly automatic

Integrated voice assistant ("Ok Yiko")

Quick mapping

Security features (surveillance camera)

2-way video calls possible

Quiet

Mobile phone app with many functions

Disadvantages:

Very expensive

Emptying station uses disposable bags

Station is beautifully designed, but quite large (not everyone's cup of tea)

AIVI 3D obstacle detection sometimes causes difficulties with navigation

Individual features are sometimes not perfectly coordinated

App has minor bugs

Quiet operation

This means it can clean both carpets and hard floors in one smooth operation, without any need for you to manually remove the mop pads.

The vacuum cleaner's multifunctional docking station is another star of the show. ⭐️

It pretty much takes over the repetitive chores involved in floor maintenance.

This station smartly handles tasks like:

  • Refilling the water (1)
  • Self-cleaning of mop pads and pumping out dirty water (2)
  • Drying the mop pads (3)
  • Emptying the dust container (4)

Cleaning the station itself is hassle-free, particularly the mop tray, which can be quickly removed and rinsed.

And the best part is that the station cleans the mop pads often.

This means the robot doesn't spread dirt from one room to another.

Instead, the dirt goes into the water tank in the station.

Low-Cost Alternatives For The Small Purse

You don’t want to dig too deep into your pocket for a robot vacuum mop combo?

No problem! Below, you can see cheap alternatives for the smaller purse.?

The Roborock S5 Max

The Roborock S5 Max convinced with powerful suction, an excellent mobile app (Wi-fi connection needed) and precise and seamless laser navigation in our test.

Roborock S5 Max robot vacuum cleaner with mopping function

But what’s the mopping performance like?

The water tank has a capacity of 290 ml. According to the manufacturer, the robot can mop an area of 200 m² at a stretch with one water filling at the lowest water intensity level. The Roborock S5 Max is therefore also suitable for more extensive flats.

You can set the water intensity in 4 levels via app control. You can also choose the water intensity for each room individually, depending on the floor type or degree of contamination.

Now you have maximum flexibility so that you can adjust the mopping performance to individual needs.

There’s also a spring construction that creates a constant contact pressure on the mopping cloth to improve the mopping performance.

The mopping performance itself is convincing. The robot vacuum cleaner frees the floor from light dirt and dust and leaves a nice damp track behind it.

The delivery scope includes a transparent plastic mat. It protects the hardwood floors from the wet mop whenever the Roborock S5 Max docks at the charging station after mopping.

You get a complete package with the Roborock S5 Max that leaves almost nothing to be desired... and that at an acceptable price!

Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950

The Deebot OZMO 950 from Ecovacs is a great robot vacuum cleaner.

The mopping function also worked very well during the test. Especially on tiles and hardwood floors, the result was excellent.

OZMO 950 Robot Vacuum Cleaner with mopping function mops tiles

It could easily clean our 80 m² flat at a stretch since it has a water tank with a 200 ml capacity.

Water tank of the OZMO 950

The Deebot OZMO 950 has a patented electric water pump. You can set the water intensity via the mobile phone app in 4 levels (low, medium, high and very high) for each room.

Unfortunately, there’s no transparent waterproof pad in the delivery scope. That means that the floor is exposed to the wet mop when charging the battery.

But no worries. You can simply buy a suitable plastic mat on Amazon* UK or at a DIY store for little money.

What the OZMO 950 can offer is an active carpet detection function.

Deebot OZMO 950 doesn’t drive onto a carpet when mopping

The robot reliably avoids carpets as soon as the water tank is attached. A great function!

Long story short: The Deebot OZMO 950 is a rock-solid robot vacuum mop hybrid at a very fair price.

Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 920*

Advantages of A Robot Vacuum Mop Hybrid

Robot vacuum mop combos become more and more popular in the UK.

And that with good reason. These hybrid models have numerous advantages.

Convenience

Imagine you are sitting on the train. You spontaneously arrange to meet friends.

But unfortunately, your flat is neither vacuumed nor mopped...

No problem. Just open the app and let your industrious housekeeper do the work entirely without your intervention. Then, when you arrive home, the floor is sparkling clean.

Very practical and comfortable!

Time-Saving: It Vacuums And Mops In One Go

The mopping robot vacuum have an unbeatable feature.

The hybrid models vacuum and mop the floor in one go. That makes the cleaning process much shorter and hard to beat in terms of efficiency.

Easy On The Back And Joints

I guess we all agree that a complete floor cleaning of the home is highly exhausting. For example, it takes at least 2 hours to vacuum and mop the floor in our 80 m² flat.

Pretty much every bone in your body hurts when you’re finally done. You're exhausted and just want to relax on the couch.

... And that’s not the end of it: It’s also not good for your back and joints.

Especially older people or people with back problems will love the robot vacuum with a mopping function.

Because now, you'll never have to vacuum or mop again. Your faithful robot vacuum will do the work for you.

We also love our robot mop and vacuum combo (Roborock S5 max) and don't want to do without it anymore.

Cleanliness - The Mopping Feature Provides The Finishing Touches

A reasonably good robot vacuum already frees your flat from coarse dirt.

But what about mopping?

A robotic vacuum with mop hybrid does both at the same time. That means it won’t just vacuum your home, but also remove coarse dirt and dust via mopping.

The floors are sparkling clean once the robot’s done. It’ll smell fresh, and the home just feels cleaner.

We let our robot (Roborock S5 Max) clean the flat almost every day and enjoy the cleanliness.

Unbeatable Price-Performance Ratio

A robotic vacuum with mop combo has an almost unbeatable price-performance ratio.

There’s no significant price difference to robot vacuum cleaners WITHOUT a mopping feature.

... and just think about the acquisition costs for a reasonably good mopping robot.

If you want to get a robot vacuum that mops, you virtually get the mopping feature as an "extra" almost for free.

That’s what we call a good deal!

Robotic Vacuum With Mop For Allergy Sufferers?

Especially for allergy sufferers, a 2-in-1 device could be an exciting alternative.

A halfway decent robot vacuum cleans the flat very well and won’t leave much dirt behind, right?

That's what we thought, and we were wrong.

We were surprised how much dust and dirt our robotic vacuum with mop hybrid still mopped off the floor during our test.

The cloth of a robot after mopping

This is what the mop looked like after it mopped the vacuumed bedroom.

If you’re looking for a robot vacuum for allergies, you should make sure it has a mopping feature.

Robotic Vacuum With Mop Hybrids For Homes With Hardwood Floors

You have mostly laminate, parquet, tiles or PVC at home?

That’s the perfect terrain for a robotic vacuum with mop!

These hardwood floors should be mopped regularly.

Mopping Robot Vacuums feel right at home on hard floors and take care of that, making your house even cleaner.

A robot vacuum with a mopping feature is very suitable for homes with mostly hard floors!

Robot Vacuums with a Mopping Feature and Carpets?

The robot vacuum with a mopping feature works brilliantly on hardwood floors.

However, a carpet is still quite challenging for them.

After all, we don't want the robot to drag the dirty, wet mop across the beautiful white carpet.

The manufacturers acknowledged that problem and found a solution:

  • Automatic carpet detection function: The robot avoids the carpets during mopping.
  • Liftable mopping plate: The robot lifts the mopping plate whenever it drives onto a carpet.

The Dreame L10s Ultra lifts the mop pads when crossing carpets - it also lifts them when it returns to the base station to rinse the mops, meaning your floors aren't streaked with dirty water.

If the vacuum-mopping robot of your choice doesn’t have these features, you can also set up virtual boundaries.

The robot vacuum doesn’t clean a carpet because there’s a virtual boundarie.

This way, the robot vacuum avoids the carpet when it mops the floor. Problem solved!

What Should I Consider When Buying A 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum?

One thing’s for sure: It’s super annoying if you end up with the wrong device that’s not suitable for cleaning your home.

To avoid this, you should consider the following criteria before buying a robot vacuum with a mopping function:

  • How good is the vacuuming performance?
  • How good is the mopping performance?
  • Which floor types do you have at home?
  • How big is the water tank?
  • How can I set the water intensity level?
  • Is there a plastic mat for the charging station?
  • Does it have a good price-performance ratio?

Let’s take a closer look at each point now.?

The Requirements: The Device Must Clean Well!

Let’s get this straight: We’re looking at a robotic vacuum (with a mopping feature)! This means that the 2-in-1 devices that we tested here must first and foremost be good vacuum cleaners.

The mopping function is an essential feature of a hybrid device but by far not the most important.

We think of the mopping feature as a kind of "bonus".

Long story short: While mopping performance is very important, it’s not a priority.

All the robot vacuums that we tested and recommended are excellent... And they also have a great mopping feature ?.

The Mopping Performance

In addition to the suction power, the mopping performance of a hybrid model must also be convincing.

But you can’t compare the mopping performance of a robot with the result of mopping by hand.

So, is the mopping function useless and a gimmick?

Definitely not.

If you look at it from this perspective, you’re doing an injustice to the robot vacuums with a mopping feature. You’d be comparing apples with oranges.

A robotic vacuum that mops is NOT here to replace mopping by hand.

Instead, you should see the mopping feature as an automated, improved dust mopping. It frees the floor from the last remnants of dust and light dirt.

A robotic vacuum with mop from below

That's what the robot vacuums with a mopping feature are made for. And they do an excellent job here.

Which Floor Types Do You Have At Home?

The mopping function of the 2-in-1 models can show its full potential on hard floors (laminate/tiles/PVC).

If you have sensitive floors such as a parquet, make sure that you can set the water intensity level for the robot via app control (wi-fi connectivity needed). Then, you can reduce the water intensity for the sensitive floor and protect the floor.

Water Tank And Water Regulation: How Many m² Can It Mop At A Time?

Water Tank

An important factor of a good robot vacuum mop combo is the size of the water tank.

The size of the water tank of two robot vacuums with mop combos in comparison

If the water tank is relatively small, the robot can mop only small places.

And nobody wants to refill the water tank constantly...

Thus, the water tank size is decisive for how much living space the robot can mop at a time.

Your flat is larger than 80 m²? Then the water tank should have a capacity of > 200 ml.

Water Regulation:

Another critical factor is "water regulation".

It determines the water consumption. It’s pretty self-explanatory: If you choose a high level, the water tank will empty more quickly.

You can set the water intensity level manually or via the app.

Is There A Plastic Mat For The Docking Station?

As soon as the robot has finished mopping, it returns to the docking station to charge the battery.

Some manufacturers include a transparent plastic mat in the delivery scope. It protects the floor from the wet mop when the robot docks at the charging station.

It prevents that a puddle forms under your robot or that the floor gets damaged by the wet mop.

Therefore, you should make sure that the robot vacuum comes with a protection mat when buying.

You can also buy a mat online* on Amazon UK.

Price-Performance Ration

The robot vacuum will take a considerable amount of work off your hands for the next few years.

Therefore, you should consider the purchase as a long-term investment. It’s not about finding the cheapest option, but about buying a premium device at a reasonable price.

After all, the little housekeeper is supposed to take a burden off your shoulders and not create additional work, right?

Robot Vacuum vs Mopping Robot vs Robotic Vacuum and Mop Hybrid

Robot Vacuum:

A robot vacuum does what its name suggests: it vacuums your home. The iRobot Roomba S9 or iRobot Roomba i7+, for example, are robot vacuums that only vacuum.

You’ll have to mop the floors yourself or get a separate mopping robot for this task.

Mopping Robots:

Pure mopping robots only mop the floor in your home. (e.g. iRobot Braava Jet m6* from iRobot)

Pure mopping robot Braava Jet m6 from iRobot

Disadvantage:

  • You have to vacuum the floor yourself beforehand, or a robot vacuum does the work. Cleaning the entire flat will take quite a long time.

Advantage:

  • A mopping robot has an optimized mopping function. Therefore, the mopping performance is usually slightly better than that of hybrid models.

Robot vacuum with mop Combos

You can also call a robot vacuum with a mop a hybrid model, a combo device or a 2-in-1 model.

This is because a robot combines both features (vacuuming and mopping) in one device.

The focus of these devices is clearly on vacuuming performance.

It also mops the floor and frees it from light dirt and dust.

This way, the mopping feature ensures more cleanliness in your home.

How Does A Robot Vacuum With A Mopping Feature work?

It may seem a little complicated at first glance.

A robot… that vacuums... and also mops?

But it's pretty straightforward.

Most combo devices have two separate containers. A dustbin to collect the coarse dirt...

Roborock S6’s dustbin

And a water tank that dampens the mop with water.

The cloth is attached to the bottom of the robot vacuum behind the suction opening.

The Roborock S5 Max’s mop

This way, the robot transports the coarse dirt first with the side brushes towards the suction opening. Then it mops the floor with the damp mop.

So simple but ingenious at the same time. ?

The water from the water tank dampens the mop through special openings.

The modern vacuum-mopping robots usually have active water regulation. Active water regulation means that you can choose how much water the robot supplies to the mop. You can set it via a switch on the water tank or the mobile phone app.

This way, you can adjust the mopping performance to the specific floor type and the degree of soiling.

Hardly Any Water Comes Out Of The Water Tank (Thin Mopping Trace) – What To Do?

The mopping trace may look like this after a couple of cleaning trips:

A thin mopping trace of a robotic vacuum with a mopping feature

That might happen because the nozzles on the water tank are clogged/calcified so that hardly any water gets from the water tank to the mop.

But don't worry, you can quickly fix the problem in two simple steps.

(1) Put a little vinegar into the full water tank and let the robot clean your home. That should dissolve any calcification.

Adding vinegar to the water tank of a vacuum-mopping robot

(2) Carefully pierce the opening on the water tank and on the robot vacuum with a thin needle to remove possible "blockages".

That should do the job, so your robot vacuum will leave a nice mopping trace as usual ?.

How Good Are Mopping Robot Vacuums?

What good are the robot vacuums with a mopping function?

Does it give your floors a tad more cleanliness, or is it more of an (expensive) gimmick?

We made it pretty clear in the previous chapters that the suction power convinced us during the test.

But can the mopping feature keep up with that?

Long story short: Even the best robot vacuums with a mopping function are currently no substitute for thorough mopping by hand.

The weight of the robot is simply too low for this.

This means that you still have to remove stains that have dried for days by hand or with a classic mop.

But that’s not the goal of a 2-in-1 robot vacuum.

As we have seen, the hybrid models do a wonderful job within their capabilities.

The Roborock s7 mops the floor

The robots remove the last remnants of dust and dirt with their damp mop. It’s the "icing on the cake" of automated daily floor cleaning?.

We think that robot vacuum mop hybrids ensure more cleanliness and more well-being in your home ?.

You want to improve the mopping result a little? Then take a look at our tips & tricks below.?

A Few Tips And Tricks For An Even Better Mopping Result

We put together a few tips and tricks if you want to get a bit more out of the mopping function.

Create A Good Starting Point

Make sure that you clean the flat thoroughly before the first mopping.

Then your 2-in-1 robot vacuum and mop will have an optimal starting point.

Now it's time to let the robot keep up the level of cleanliness!

Let The Robot Mop Your Flat Regularly

Even the best vacuum-mopping robot doesn't stand a chance if the floor is super dirty.

Therefore, we recommend letting the little housekeeper mop the flat regularly.

The more often the robot mops the flat, the cleaner your home will be.

Use Water With Less Lime

Water with a high lime content not only leads to worse mopping results (stains/streaks on the floor), it could also clog the water outlet nozzles.

If your tap water has a very high lime content, it might be better to run the water through a filter first.

Put Some Detergent In The Water Tank

That trick is pretty apparent: Simply add some detergent to the water tank.

You’ll quickly see an improvement in the cleaning result.

But be careful...

...not all cleaning agents are suitable for a robot vacuum’s water tank.

The water tank is usually made of relatively thin plastic, which is why an aggressive floor cleaner could damage the water tank.

Furthermore, a highly chemical floor cleaner could clog the water nozzles. It could also invalidate the manufacturer’s warranty.

You must use a suitable floor cleaner*. You're able to find a lot of products on Amazon UK.

Please make sure that it is a compatible cleaning agent.

The following are safe to use:

  • Special floor cleaners for robot vacuum cleaners* .
  • with a mopping function: The manufacturers usually recommend these themselves. They are specially designed for this specific use.
  • Organic cleaner: They are usually very suitable for robot vacuums, and they also don’t contain any harmful chemicals, which is good for the environment.
  • Common all-purpose cleaners: Such floor cleaners are very gentle and shouldn’t cause any damage to your robot or the floor.

Finally, we recommend paying close attention to the ratio.

Please mix only a tiny amount of a compatible floor cleaner into the cold water in the water tank.

You can usually find the appropriate ratio in the product description of the cleaning agent.

Less is indeed more here. Too much cleaning agent can cause ugly streaks on the floor, and it also increases the risk of damaging the water tank and/or the water nozzles.

Just follow these tips to be on the safe side, and your cleaning results will improve.

The flat just smells fresher and is a tad cleaner.

PS: If the manufacturer explicitly prohibits cleaning agents in the operating instructions, you should also comply with them.

The measures listed above aren’t a recommendation for action!

Add Detergent Directly Onto The Mop Or Floor

You don't want to add the floor cleaner to the water tank?

No problem!

Alternatively, you can put the cleaner onto the mop (or directly on the floor).

Adding organic cleaner to the mop of the robot vacuum with a mopping function

That’ll also improve the mopping result.

Dampen The Mop Before Cleaning

Sometimes, it takes a few minutes until the mop absorbs enough water to dampen the floor properly.

If you want to see a damp trace on the floor from the beginning, you should hold the mop briefly under running water.

Then the mop will be wet enough for optimal mopping results right from the start of the cleaning.

Dampening the mop before the cleaning trip

Wash The Mop Regularly

We were surprised at how much dirt and grime the mop collects over time...

And we thought our flat was already clean!

Therefore, it’s all the more important to clean the mop thoroughly.

We recommend washing the mop regularly in the washing machine at 40 degrees.

Washing the Mop in the washing machine

You can also thoroughly rinse the mop under hot water after each cleaning (or even during the trip).

Change The Mop After Each Cleaning

We recommend changing the mop after each cleaning run.

Thus, you should have several mops at home.

We have three mops for our Roborock S5 Max so that we always have a fresh mop at hand.

You can always buy a mop online* on Amazon UK.

Clean The Water Tank Regularly

Moisture can form inside the device if you leave the water tank attached to the robot all the time.

That’s not hygienic in the long run. It could even lead to mould in the water tank in extreme cases.

We surely don’t want that.

We recommend emptying the water tank once a week and rinsing it thoroughly with lukewarm water.

Then place the water tank upside down on the windowsill to dry.

The water tank dries on the windowsill

You can reattach the water tank once it’s completely dry after approx. 2-3 hours.

Then everything’s clean, and the robot can get back to work. ?

Heavily Soiled Floors? Let The Robot Mop It Several Times.

This tip may sound obvious, but it helps.

It always does the trick for us.

The kitchen floor sometimes looks very dirty after we cooked dinner.

Then it takes the little housekeeper a few more times to clean it all up.

And indeed, if you mop a heavily soiled floor several times, the result improves.

Oh yes, and don’t forget to switch to the highest water intensity level to ensure a better result.

Insider Tip: Clamp An Extra Cloth Under The Mop

Now our insider tip.

You can use a microfibre cloth to increase the contact pressure...

... and tuck it under the mop.

You’ll see a significant improvement in the mopping result!

You can buy such a cloth* online for little money on Amazon UK.

Make sure that the cloth isn’t too thick. Otherwise, the tyres may spin.

  • Do any Roombas (Roomba S9+, Roomba i7+, …) vacuum and mop?

There are no Roomba robotic vacuums for sale that can clean your floor and mop it at the same time.

But there are also some Roomba mopping robots in the market. iRobot Braava Jet m6* is one of them.

  • Does The Roborock S6 Also Have A Mopping Function?

The Roborock S6 is the predecessor of the Roborock S5 Max.

The suction power, the mobile app...

...The Roborock S5 Max and the Roborock S6 are pretty much on par here. They both do a great job.

The mopping function, on the other hand, is somewhat inferior compared to the Roborock S5 Max.

Firstly, you can’t set the water intensity level via the mobile phone app. Instead, you have to select one of the two levels (little and maximum) via a switch on the water tank.

The switch on the water tank of the Roborock S6

It’s certainly much smarter to set the water supply via a mobile phone app. Nevertheless, the switch works surprisingly well with the Roborock S6.

Furthermore, the S6’s water tank has a capacity of 150 ml, which is significantly smaller than that of the Roborock S5 Max. So it almost didn’t make it to mop our 80 m² flat with one water filling at a stretch.

The water tank of the Roborock S6

The transparent plastic mat, which you have to clamp under the charging station to protect your floor from the wet mop, is of high quality. You can easily attach it to the charging station with the help of a click mechanism.

The mopping function fulfils its purpose - The robot removes minor dirt and last dust residues with it, ensuring more well-being at home.

The Roborock S6 mops the kitchen

The overall package of the Roborock S6 is convincing. It’s a good robot vacuum with a decent mopping function as a bonus.
