Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

Experience top-tier cleaning with the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra, boasting the standout Ultra Station.

Enhanced automation and quality set this model apart from its predecessor, the S7 series.

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra makes a bold promise: "Forget cleaning - really!" and it does a good job living up to that.

This robot cleaner is packed with top-notch features, with the Ultra Station being the star. ⭐️

This handy station does four things for you:

  • Cleans the mop
  • Dries the mop
  • Empties the mobile dust tank
  • Refills the water tank

functions of the ultra station

Essentially, it makes daily cleaning mostly hands-off. ✋🏻

It's evident that the makers have taken the best parts of their older models and added some neat improvements.

Highlights include a new way to dry the mop, an improved brush system, better obstacle detection, and two mop settings for a thorough clean.

This model feels more like a polished version of the previous ones rather than a brand-new invention.

During our tests, its wiping function worked extremely well. 🧽

Its strong suction was commendable too.

The device also showcased good navigation skills, especially in obstacle detection.

On the downside, its side brush could be better on carpets and edges, and the use of throwaway dust bags seems a bit old-fashioned.

Plus, it's on the pricier side. 🤑

So, if you're after the latest in robot cleaning and don't mind the cost, this is a great pick.

But if you're looking to save a bit, considering the slightly older S7 series might be a good idea.

Ecovacs Deebot X1 OMNI

The luxury option 💎

This device’s numerous functions work towards making your home more hygienic. This is especially beneficial for allergy sufferers.

The Ecovacs Deebot X1 OMNI is a luxury cleaning robot.

It has many positive properties that particularly benefit households with allergies.

We want to highlight the multifunction station in particular. ☝️

It was this feature that was particularly impressive during our review:

  • (1) The mobile dust box is emptied automatically at the emptying station.
  • (2) The mop pads are washed and dried at the station. At the same time, the mobile water tank is also refilled (cleaning station).
The operation of the multifunction station of the Ecovacs Deebot X1 OMNI is shown

Every 10 minutes, the robot returns to the station to wring out and rinse the mopping pads. This means your home is always cleaned with clean mops.

And if you look at the dirty water tank, you can clearly see all the dirt the robot removes from your floors. 👇

The dirty water tank and the fresh water tank of the Ecovacs Deebot X1 OMNI are held up

The good thing about the Ecovacs Deebot X1 OMNI is that the household cleaning (vacuuming and mopping) takes place almost completely independently. This means that you will hardly come into contact with any dust or dirt.

You don't have to wash out the mop, empty the mobile dust box by hand or refill the water tank... The multifunction station does all this for you.

Advantages:

Greatly improved mopping ability

Mopping pads are automatically wrung out, rinsed and dried at the station

Water tank is refilled automatically

Auto-empty station

Elegant design by Jacob Jensen

Gently skirts furniture (hardly any collisions)

Obstacle detection (also of flat objects)

Can detect objects even in poor lighting conditions

Floor cleaning (vacuuming and mopping) is mostly automatic

Integrated voice assistant ("Ok Yiko")

Quick mapping

Security features (surveillance camera)

2-way video calls possible

Quiet

Mobile phone app with many functions

Disadvantages:

Very expensive

Emptying station uses disposable bags

Station is beautifully designed, but quite large (not everyone's cup of tea)

AIVI 3D obstacle detection sometimes causes difficulties with navigation

Individual features are sometimes not perfectly coordinated

App has minor bugs

Best for multi-storey homes

iRobot Roomba i7+

Premium robot vacuum from iRobot with a self-emptying station (cleaning Base). HEPA filters, maintenance-free cleaning brushes and an excellent app with a scheduling function round off the overall package.

Thanks to the self-emptying cleaning base, there is no contact with the aggressive house dust.

Roomba i7 + is also suitable for allergy sufferers. You won’t have any contact with the aggressive house dust, thanks to the cleaning base (self-emptying dust bin).

iRobot Roomba i7+ stands at the self-emptying base

The cleaning performance was also excellent.

Overview of the Roomba i7+ cleaning test results

The two maintenance-free cleaning brushes are another useful feature for allergy sufferers.

Unlike all other models presented here, the Roomba i7 has two (instead of one) main brushes. These are made of rubber (instead of bristles) and rotate in opposite directions.

You can remove the brushes with one hand...

Removing the Roomba i7+ main brushes

...and clean them.

Removing hair from the Roomba i7 Plus main brush

They have a unique design so that dirt can’t get stuck here (except for a few hairs).

The iRobot Roomba i7+ also has a powerful HEPA filter. It filters allergens and dirt particles from the air.

The Roomba i7 doesn’t have a mopping function. We recommend using a separate mopping robot - the iRobot Braava m6 (premium mopping robot - buy here*) or Medion MD 18379 (cheaper model).

What features does a robot vacuum for allergies need?

If you have a severe allergy, the flat should be clean at all times.

Daily vacuuming is a must!

However, this takes up a lot of time and energy...

...Therefore, a robotic vacuum cleaner is a somewhat "must-have gadget" for allergy sufferers.

You can have the robot vacuum clean the floors at the touch of a button. As often as you want, whenever you want. The little household helper does its job reliably and without your intervention.

This way, your home will be clean at all times, and you won’t have to suffer that much from allergies anymore.

Thanks to good navigation, the robotic vacuum will clean your flat seamlessly. It won’t forget a single area. Since the robot vacuums are very flat, they can reach even the deepest corners under your bed/couch!

Furthermore, robot vacuums have evolved continuously in recent years and offer many useful functions that make life so much easier, especially for allergy sufferers.

The following features are mandatory in a robotic vacuum for allergy sufferers:

  • a HEPA filter,
  • a mopping function,
  • a timer function,
  • an self-emptying dust bin.

We’ll take a closer look at these features now.

The HEPA filter - an absolute "must-have"

When the robot vacuum cleans your floors, it sucks up allergens (pollen, house dust, mite droppings and animal hair).

However, it also has to release the air again that it sucked in.

If it doesn’t have the right filter, it’ll release all these microscopic dust particles back into the room. These cause well-known allergic reactions.

The solution lays at hand: a HEPA filter.

A HEPA filter, "High-Efficiency Particulate Air Filter", filters out even the tiniest particles so they don’t get back into the room air.

Illustration of how a robot vacuum with a HEPA filter removes allergens from the outflowing air.

This way, it filters up to 99% of the smallest particles (allergens) out of the air.

That makes the HEPA filter an absolute "MUST criterion" for a robot vacuum for allergy sufferers.

Robotic vacuum cleaner for allergies with mopping function

Another handy feature of a robotic vacuum cleaner for allergy sufferers is the mopping function.

So-called robot vacuum with mop (hybrid robots or 2-in-1 devices) have a huge advantage: they can vacuum and mop the floors in one go.

A vacuum-mopping robot mops the floor in the study

P.S.: You thought your flat was 100% clean? The mopping function picks up even more dirt!

Holding a dirty mop of a vacuum-mopping robot after mopping a room

You can find our selection of the "Best Robot Vacuum and Mop Combos" and further details on the topic in our review.

A robotic vacuum cleaner with a mopping function offers a significant advantage for allergy sufferers. It frees the floors from the last dirt and dust residues with its damp mop.

This little more cleanliness contributes to more freshness, less allergen exposure, and a better sense of well-being altogether.

Tips and tricks to improve the mopping function

You can improve the mopping performance of your robot in a few simple steps.

That includes the following things:

  • Put special cleaner in the water tank or on the wiping cloth (available on Amazon* UK).
  • Have several mops at hand so you can change the mop after each cleaning.
  • Wash the mop after each cleaning. You can simply wash the dirty mop with dirty laundry in the washing machine.

This way, you can improve the wiping performance of the suction-wiping robot...

...and that leads to more cleanliness and well-being in your home.

Robotic vacuum cleaner for allergies: Timer / scheduling function

Another feature that makes life much easier for allergy sufferers is a timer function.

You can set your robotic vacuum to clean your home on fixed days / at certain times.

You can usually set that up in the mobile phone app for modern robot vacuums.

But why is the timer function such a must-have for allergy sufferers?

Most of the allergens (e.g. pollen, animal hair, mite faeces, ...) are on the floor. You stir them up when vacuuming and catapult them into the air... and inhale them.

That’s why allergy attacks often occur during vacuum cleaning.

But you can prevent that quite easily.

Set the vacuuming times (via the timer function) so that your little household helper cleans the flat in your absence. Then you can come home to a spotless and freshly cleaned flat.

We always send our robot vacuum on its cleaning trip during working hours. It’s so great to come home to a freshly cleaned flat every day ?.

A self-emptying dust bin: Great addition for allergy sufferers

A high-end feature of a robot vacuum (and at the same time a handy function for allergy sufferers) is the self-emptying dust bin.

In case you're wondering what an self-emptying cleaning base is...

This is what it looks like:

Holding the self-emptying dust bin of a robot vacuum

And that’s how it works:

Showing how the robot vacuum’s self-emptying base works

It automatically empties the mobile dust container of the robot vacuum during each charging process.

The great advantage for allergy sufferers is that you won’t have to empty the mobile dust container by hand anymore.

Emptying the robot vacuum’s mobile dust container over a dustbin

An auto-empty dock not only automates the cleaning process almost entirely but also minimises contact with "allergenic content" (dirt).

All that’s left to do is changing the dust bag in the emptying station every 2-3 months. You can buy the bags online on Amazon UK.

Replacing the dust bag in the self-emptying docking station

A great feature for allergy sufferers!

Thorough maintenance is mandatory for allergy sufferers

HEPA filter

You should service the HEPA filter regularly to keep its performance at the same level.

We recommend cleaning the filter once a month.

To do this, you just have to remove the filter and carefully tap it out over a dustbin.

Removing the HEPA filter

Removing the HEPA filter from a robot vacuum for cleaning.

HEPA filter cleaning

Tapping out the HEPA filter over a dustbin

You should also remove dust from the HEPA filter with the included cleaning brush (or a toothbrush).

Cleaning the HEPA filter of a robot vacuum with a cleaning brush

Depending on the manufacturer and filter type, you can sometimes even wash the HEPA filter under running water.

Cleaning the HEPA filter under running water

Read the instructions to see whether you can clean the filter with water or not. We strongly recommend that you follow the manufacturer's instructions.

When you clean the filter (especially when you tap it out), you’ll also stir up the aggressive house dust. That’s far from pleasant for a person with severe allergies.

Therefore, we have 3 tips on how to reduce allergen exposure during the cleaning process.

Tip 1: Wear a mask when cleaning (uncomplicated method)

Everyone knows and owns it these days: the mask.

Therefore, we recommend putting on a respiratory mask when cleaning (especially when tapping out) the filter.

Cleaning the HEPA filter above the dustbin, wearing a face mask.

This way, you won’t inhale the allergens and prevent an allergic reaction.

Tip 2: Cleaning the HEPA filter outdoors

If you have a garden or balcony, we recommend cleaning the HEPA filter outdoors.

Many allergens get into the air during the process, especially when tapping out the filter.

Outside, the dust particles will be distributed in a much larger volume of air. Thus, you’ll also inhale only a smaller amount of dust particles.

If you wear a mask, too, you’ll have additional protection.

Tip 3: Tap out HEPA filter in a plastic bag

If you don’t like the first two options, we have another - slightly more complicated - cleaning method.

You’ll have to do the following steps:

  • Lightly moisten a kitchen wipe,
  • Put the wipe in a plastic bag and place the HEPA filter on top,
  • Close the plastic bag,
  • Tap out the HEPA filter in the closed plastic bag,
  • After tapping out the HEPA filter, leave it in the bag for a few minutes (until the dust settles),
  • Then take out the filter, carefully close the plastic bag and throw it away.

With this method, you prevent most allergens from getting back into the air or your airways.

Regular filter change is mandatory

No matter how carefully you clean the HEPA filter...

...you should still replace it at regular intervals.

Depending on the degree of contamination, you should change the filter every 3-6 months (heavy contamination) or 7-12 months (light contamination).

You can usually order replacement filters conveniently on the Internet.

Maintenance of the brush roll

If you are a pet owner (or even people with long hair), you know this too well.

You can often find pet hair and also long human hair on the floor.

These can wrap around the brush roll (and also the side brush).

Hair has wrapped around the side brush and main brush of a robot vacuum

You should clean the brushes from time to time, as these often cause allergic reactions.

Even if you don’t have pets or people with long hair in the household, some dirt still accumulates in the brushes, so you should remove that regularly.

You can remove, disassemble and clean the main brush in no time.

Removing the main brush from a robot vacuum

Many manufacturers include a unique cleaning tool in the delivery scope for cleaning. With this, you can easily remove the stuck hairs.

You could also use conventional scissors.

Removing and cleaning the main brush of a robot vacuum

Replacing the brush regularly

If the bristles protrude in all directions and the cleaning performance decreases a lot, you should replace the brushes.

People with severe allergies should always check if the robotic vacuum cleaner provides optimal cleaning performance.

A useful feature: the app indicates when you should replace the brushes.

You should take this information as a guideline. Depending on the use of the robot vacuum, the brushes may last much longer.

You can buy the spare parts at amazon, too.

Mop

If you chose a robot vacuum with a mopping function, you also have to clean the mop regularly.

Attaching a clean mop to a robot vacuum / mop hybrid

...because it usually looks like this when it finished mopping your flat:

Holding a dirty mop of a suction-mop robot

We recommend washing the mop with your dirty laundry in the washing machine at 40 degrees after each cleaning trip.

You should buy several replacement wipes so that you always have a clean wipe at hand. You can order these online, too (on Amazon UK).

The advantages of a robot vacuum for allergy sufferers

Thorough Cleaning

Display of a map showing how seamlessly the robot vacuum drove around and cleaned the flatDid you vacuum under each bed or couch? And what about cleaning along the skirting boards?

Thorough cleaning takes a lot of time...

...and it’s also extremely exhausting.

No matter how hard you try, you sometimes forget to clean a few spots.

Especially for people with severe allergies, thorough and, above all, flawless floor cleaning is a must.

Modern robot vacuums for allergy sufferers take that burden off your shoulders.

It cleans your flat 100% seamlessly, thanks to structured navigation. Not a single grain of dirt can escape that hungry robotic vacuum cleaner - as long as it can reach it.

More frequent cleaning

A robot vacuum is at your disposal, so it cleans your home as often as you like.

Allergy sufferers should let the little household helper clean daily.

Thus, it maintains an excellent standard of "basic cleanliness".

Cleaning in your absence

All allergy sufferers know this problem: allergic reactions occur more often when vacuuming.

The reason lays at hand.

The suction process stirs up the allergens. You breathe them in, and you start having these well-known allergy symptoms.

A robotic vacuum cleaner for allergy sufferers is a huge relief.

You can let the robot vacuum clean the flat in your absence, thanks to the timer function.

You won’t inhale the whirled-up dust during vacuuming.

That’s an excellent feature for allergy sufferers.

Even more cleanliness through special features

Special features of a robot vacuum - such as the mopping function or self-emptying dust bin - offer great benefits, especially for allergy sufferers.

These ensure even more cleanliness in your home.

This, in turn, reduces exposure to allergens and improves your well-being!

Robot vacuum - carpets - allergy sufferers

Carpets pose more significant challenges for all kinds of vacuums (corded stick vacuums, upright vacuums and robot vacuum cleaners).

Dust, dirt and allergens settle in the long carpet fibres and are very difficult to remove.

Robot vacuums are continually improving here, too - see our "Robot vacuum for carpets".

Still, there is no robot vacuum on the market that scores a 100% satisfactory result for severe allergy sufferers.

Since carpets are out of the question for people with severe allergies anyways - and are also rarely used in such households - it’s not a big deal.

Therefore, our advice: As beautiful and cosy as a pile carpet may be: If you have strong allergic reactions, you shouldn’t have a carpet.

If you don't want to do without your carpet, we have the following tips:

  • You should vacuum the carpet thoroughly every day with a powerful device.

Additional tip for allergies: Air purifier

We have another insider tip for you.

Especially if you have extreme allergic reactions...

...an air purifier can work wonders.

Illustration of how an air purifier works

A modern air purifier filters out 99.9% of all harmful substances (e.g. bacteria, allergens, etc.) from your ambient air.

All that’s left is clean, fresh air.

We compiled an overview of the best air purifiers for allergies (as well as other useful information) in our review, check it out!

Robotic Vacuum cleaner for allergies - Our conclusion

People with allergies (house dust, dog hair, etc.) have to clean the flat regularly and thoroughly. But nobody wants to vacuum the entire flat every day...

...Special robotic vacuum cleaners for allergy sufferers make household cleaning much more manageable. It automatically cleans your home every day.

These robot vacuums also have unique features that fulfil an allergy sufferer’s particular needs.

A robot vacuum for allergy sufferers should have the following functions:

  • a HEPA filter,
  • a mopping function,
  • a timer function,
  • a self-emptying dust bin.

These ensure perfect cleanliness in your home at all times. It will decrease your exposure to allergens significantly.

No more watery eyes, runny noses and sneezing fits - you can breathe freely and feel comfortable in your home!

Additional information

  • Allergy Triggers: Allergens in the home

The environment is full of tiny particles, which are usually harmless. However, under certain circumstances, these can trigger "overreactions" in our bodies - better known as allergies.

You carry these allergens (irritants) into the home by yourself. They include:

    ● Various types of pollen.

    ● House dust.

    ● Mites and mite faeces.

    ● Pet hair, saliva and dander from pets

    ● Moulds.

Our mucous membranes and respiratory tract absorb these allergens. Mucous membranes are located in the mouth, nose and also in the eyes. That’s what triggers the unpleasant symptoms for allergy sufferers

The symptoms are usually a runny nose, skin rashes, sneezing, itching and watery eyes. Complaints such as coughing, shortness of breath or whistling breathing are unfortunately also quite common.

There is a solution to ease the suffering: you should keep the flat clean at all times.

That’s where robot vacuums are the knights in shining armour!

P.S.: Especially carpets can be a breeding ground for house dust. In case of severe allergy attacks, you should do without a carpet.
