This cordless vacuum plays in the top league. Its cleaning performance leaves nothing to be desired, and the innovative design is very user-friendly.
The Dyson V10 Absolute caught us off-guard with its entirely new design when it came out in 2018.
The new arrangement of the engine and dirt tank has improved performance significantly.
The Dyson V10’s Highlights
Excellent Cleaning Performance
The Dyson V10 came out with flying colours in our cleaning tests. No matter what dirt or on which floor type, the Dyson V10 left the floor spotless.
The cordless stick vacuum scored so well thanks to its powerful suction. According to the manufacturer, the V10 has 150 AW. You see that when you vacuum. That’s why the V10 stole the show from all other cordless vacuums in 2018.
Emptying the Dirt Container
The new emptying function is also a considerable advantage.
You just have to push the slider forward, and the dirt falls directly into the dustbin.
Advantage: It’s very suitable for allergy sufferers, but it’s also great for everyone else. Now the annoying dust won’t find its way back into the flat.
Flexibility
It’s super easy to convert it from a stick vacuum to a handheld vacuum. The vast amount of accessories also increases the versatility of the V10 immensely.
Long Runtime
The battery life of the Dyson V10 is excellent and lasts for up to 60 minutes. That’s sufficient for cleaning most flats and houses. After that, it takes about 4.5 hours to charge the battery fully.
3 Different Power Settings
It’s also got an upgrade from two to three suction modes. This way, you can always choose a suitable power mode for the dirty challenge that lays in front of you.
You can switch to turbo mode if you have to deal with stubborn dirt. If it’s only light dirt, the minimum level will be sufficient.
The medium level works great for most everyday situations.
The extra mode improves cleaning performance and battery life.
There’s always room for improvement
After the Dyson V11 came onto the market, the price of the V10 has also dropped immensely. The most significant disadvantage of the cordless vacuum cleaner has become insignificant.
Which variant is the best deal?
There are three variants of the V10:
- Absolute,
- Motorhead,
- Animal.
The manufacturer offers only the Absolute model at the moment, which is the best option anyway if you ask us. Its features are simply the best.
Read more about that in our detailed Dyson V10 Absolute review.
We recommend the Dyson V10 for those who want an excellent cleaning performance but don’t need the latest technology (display, automatic adjustment of suction power, etc.).
This naturally affects the price of the V10. It’s much cheaper than the latest models.

High quality has always been Dyson’s trademark. The V8 was a real gamechanger when it first came out. Now you won’t even have to dig too deep into your pocket to make it your own.
The Dyson V8 was Dyson's top model for years and impressed even then with excellent cleaning performance.
Nowadays, the device’s price is almost unbeatable, considering what an excellent performance it brings to the table.
The Advantages of the Dyson V8
Bright and shiny at the end
Like all Dyson devices in the UK, the cleaning performance leaves nothing to be desired. The Dyson V8 has an impressive 120 AW. That’s a superb value - even for today’s standards.
In our cleaning tests, it hardly reached its limits.
Versatile? - Definitely
The V8 is also very versatile in use. It works great for cleaning your flat, furniture and also to vacuum the car.
Power Modes
You can step up your game for coarse dirt and save battery power when removing everyday dirt thanks to its two suction levels.
Are there any disadvantages?
Old but Powerful
It’s an outdated model that works very well - but not as good as its successors.
Time Matters
The battery life is relatively short.
Attention Allergy Sufferers
Emptying the dirt container is a little more complicated than with the successor models. You can’t hit the bucket with that much precision. You have to be more careful so that the dust won’t sneak back into the flat.
Recommendation
The power is decent, and the cleaning performance is good.
We recommend the unit for those who have a small budget, in smaller flats.
Cleaning Battle of the Dyson V8 vs Dyson V10
We put both cordless vacuums through the wringer in our cleaning test.
We weighed different types of dirt, spread them on different floor types, and checked how well each vacuum gets rid of it. We used the power mode for this.
We also test how the devices perform over a longer period in everyday life.
The overall result of the two cordless vacuums is more than respectable.
However, as we took a closer look at them, we revealed huge differences.
The overall cleaning results

Cleaning on Hard Floors
Especially on hard floors (in our case laminate), we could easily separate the wheat from the chaff.
The Dyson V10 Absolute sucked up 100% of the coarse dirt without any problems, thanks to the enlarged brush.
The Dyson V8 Absolute, on the other hand, reached its limits with the lentils.
At first, it merely pushed the lentils in front of the brush and removed only 80% in total.

Cleaning on Short Carpets
On short pile carpet, the Dyson V10 sucked up almost everything (99% total) at an astonishing speed.
Dyson V10 before/after test on short carpet
The Dyson V8 also achieved an excellent result on the low carpet (97% overall). But it wasn’t even close to the impressive speed and efficiency of its successor.

Cleaning Long Pile Carpets
Here the Dyson V10 Absolute proved its outstanding cleaning performance once again. It came out with flying colours and removed 99% of the dirt on the long carpet.

The V8 also achieved a great (overall) result of 97% here.

Cleaning in Everyday Life and Conclusion
We were delighted with both devices in everyday use.
However, the improved cleaning performance of the Dyson V10 Absolute is quite noticeable. It’s got such a powerful suction. In turbo mode, you even have troubles lifting the device off the carpet again. It thoroughly deep-cleans long carpets.
Even with coarse dirt, there are worlds between the cleaning in everyday life. We usually vacuum under the table after breakfast because our children often drop some “presents” for the vacuum. The V8 pushed the bigger crumbs in front of it at first. The V10, on the other hand, didn’t have any problems with it and left the floor spotless.

Comparing the Designs of the Dyson V8 vs Dyson V10
The first change stands out immediately. It’s a significant improvement for the Dyson V10.
Dyson has changed the arrangement of the motor unit. In the V8, they had arranged the dirt container vertically. That was the classic design that the rest of the industry in the UK copied.
That changed with the Dyson V10. Here the dirt container has a horizontal position so that the suction tube is kind of an extension of the dirt container.
The emptying function works much better than before, thanks to this innovation. Dyson UK also sized up the cordless vacuum cleaner’s dirt container. Instead of a capacity of 0.5 litres as with the V8, the dust container holds almost 0.75 litres now. You won't have to empty it as often anymore, which is a great advantage!
The power button remains the same. You still have to hold the trigger to vacuum. Dyson UK achieves a higher battery performance with this because you’ll only activate the vacuum when you are really vacuuming.
Comparing Height and Weight
Either way, the size isn’t the most important criteria and is almost the same in both devices. That’s why nothing has changed in the handling, either.
The Dyson V8 was known for its convenient weight of around 2.6 kg. The Dyson V10 is a true lightweight, too.
Dyson V8 vs V10 - Size and Weight
Category | Dimensions V8 | Dimensions V10 |
Weight | 2.6 kg (5.7 lbs) | 2.6 kg (5.7 lbs) |
Size | 122 cm (48 inches) | 125 cm (49 inches) |

Dyson V8 vs V10 as a Cordless Handheld Vacuum
Both the Dyson V8 and V10 have the 2-in-1 function, which most cordless vacuums have in our reviews (best cordless stick vacuums review). This means that you can use them as a cordless stick vacuum and as a cordless hand vacuum. All you have to do is change the attachments.
This is very practical and increases flexibility enormously.
In handheld vacuum mode, the V8 is slightly ahead in terms of weight and size. But you won’t notice a big difference with a few centimetres less and 200 grams (0.4 lbs) more.
Size and Weight as a Cordless Hand Vacuum
Category | Dyson V8 | Dyson V10 |
Size | 32 cm (12.8 inches) + varies greatly with the attachment | 35 cm (13.7 inches) + varies greatly with the attachment |

Who’s Got Better Accessories?
We also took a closer look at the delivery scope in our Dyson V8 vs Dyson V10 comparison. The accessories decide how versatile the device is in use.
Dyson UK varies the included accessories in the different versions of a model (e.g. V8 Absolute and V8 Motorhead).
Here we compared the Dyson V8 Absolute and the Dyson V10 Absolute.
These two come with the same accessories.
The Dyson V8 and V10 Accessories
Electric brush with direct drive
- Soft roller with direct drive
- Combination tool
- Crevice tool
- Mini electric brush
- Extra Soft Brush
- Wall mount
- Charger
The Electric Brush with Direct Drive
is used to vacuum the floor and is the standard cleaning head of the Dyson V8. The V10 also comes with an electric brush. It’s a little wider but very similar.
The Soft Roller with Direct Drive
is particularly suitable for vacuuming hard floors, such as laminate. It’s a cleaner head with a soft roller and direct drive.
The Combi Accessory Nozzle
helps vacuum furniture and objects. At the push of a button, you can retract the brush’s soft bristles and take on stubborn dirt on robust surfaces.
The Crevice Tool
comes in very handy when vacuuming between upholstery or the like.
The Mini Electric Brush
has its own electric drive and thus improves the cleaning performance. It works great for removing pet hair from upholstery or cleaning the car.
The Extra Soft Brush
is the modern way of dusting pictures and the like. You won’t miss a speck of dust thanks to the soft bristles and its powerful suction.
The Practical Wall Mount
Dyson has developed the docking station so you can store your device on the wall and save space. You can even connect the charger to the wall mount, thanks to its ingenious system. This way, you’ll charge the device whenever you’re stowing it away.
Are the Dyson V8’s accessories compatible with the V10?
Yes, you can use the accessories of the V8 with the V10! You don't even need an adapter or anything like that.
Cleaning Features of the Dyson V8 vs V10 - What contributes to the cleaning performance?
Both devices have various cleaning features that optimise the cleaning performance apart from the exceptional suction power and the sophisticated cyclone technology (details on cyclone technology).
The V8 and V10 have standard brushes and soft rollers with direct drive. This means that the brushes rotate independently. They catapult the dirt into the suction tube at high speed once you activate the vacuum.
The brush of the V10 reacts as soon as you press the button. The brush of the V8 has a slight delay.
How do the different cleaning brushes help?
The V8 Absolute and V10 Absolute both come with a standard brush and a soft roller.
You can use the standard brush for all floor types. However, the soft roller of the Dyson V10 does a great job removing coarse dirt on hard floors. It’s an upgrade to the poor performance of the V8 on hard floors that we mentioned earlier.
The Differences in the Power Settings
Dyson UK added a third ("weaker") cleaning mode to the Dyson V10 Absolute.
You can remove light dirt with the V10 in the first power mode. It’s got a suction power of 14 Air watts (AW), which saves battery. The battery life is approx. 50 minutes in this mode.
However, we used the V10 mostly in the medium power setting in everyday life. The battery runtime is shorter at this level, but it’s got a more powerful suction sufficient for almost all types of dirt.
The medium mode of the V10 is almost the same as the first mode of the V8. Dyson upgraded this mode with another 10 air watts in the V10. It’s not entirely clear whether these 10 AW ensure better cleaning performance. It’s probably the overall package that leads to a significant increase in cleaning performance.
The V10 Absolute shines with 150 AW in turbo mode. That’s an increase of about 30%. That’s an astonishing improvement, especially when you look at the competition (see our other battery vacuum cleaner reviews).
The Suction Power at a Glance
Power Mode V8 | Suction Power V8 | Suction Power V10 |
X | X | 14 AW |
Level 1 | 28 AW | 35 AW |
Turbo Mode | 115 AW | 150 AW |

Differences in the Handling
How does a product stand out from the crowd these days?
It’s got to be intuitive and easy to use. Nobody wants to read hours of instruction manuals before they can get started.
When comparing the Dyson V8 vs the Dyson V10 Absolute, you’ll see that Dyson focused on that during development.
The handling is not the same, but it’s still user-friendly.
The Commissioning
As soon as you unpack it, you notice that Dyson UK has put some thought into it.
Plastic-free packaging ensures sustainability, and that’s why we’re giving it a plus regarding eco-friendliness.
After unpacking and charging, you can simply plug in the required attachments, and off you go. It’s pretty self-explanatory!
Soundcheck of the V8 vs V10
We measured a volume of 70 to 80 decibels for both devices. It’s quite tolerable, and you could compare it to the volume of a washing machine.
Who lasts longer?
The manufacturer managed to improve battery performance during development. Naturally, the runtime depends on the area of use and the attachment.
The battery lasts between 30 to 40 minutes in the medium level of the V10 or Level 1 of the V8 Absolute. But the V10 brings considerably more power to the table.
The battery performance of Dyson V8 vs V10 Absolute
Suction Level | Battery Life in Minutes | Battery Life in Minutes |
1 | X | approx. 50 minutes |
2 | approx. 40 minutes | approx. 40 minutes |
3 | approx. 7 minutes | approx. 9 minutes |
The Manoeuvrability of the V8 and V10
Both cordless vacuums are very easy to manoeuvre thanks to the joint on the brushes.
In our opinion, the motor unit’s rearrangement makes using the device much more comfortable and improves the vacuum’s manoeuvrability. It feels like the weight is better distributed.
Maintenance: Is It a Burden or a Blessing?
The maintenance of Dyson devices is by no means annoying. Maintaining these two devices in questions gives you no troubles. The tasks are user-friendly and consist of three different things you have to do at regular intervals.
- Emptying and cleaning the dirt container
- Cleaning the HEPA filter
- Maintenance of the battery
Emptying the Dirt Container
You can take from our Dyson V8 vs Dyson V10 Absolute comparison that the dust container’s emptying has changed completely. That’s due to the power unit’s new arrangement.
On the V8, the lever is at the top of the engine. You have to pull it upwards so that the dirt container’s lid opens downwards. The dirt ends up in the waste once you get the hang of it.
To empty the dirt container of the Dyson V10, you have to push a small lever on the dust container’s bottom side. The lid pops open, and the dirt will fall out. It’s much easier to hit the dustbin with that mechanism.
We think this is a massive advantage of the V10 over the V8. It’s handy for Allergy sufferers, as you can empty the dust container much more precisely into the dustbin.
Cleaning the Dirt Container
Dyson has installed a small button for cleaning the dirt container. You can remove the dirt container very easily by pressing the button. Then you can wash out the container.
Cleaning the HEPA filter
The HEPA filter (high efficencie filter) removes the smallest dust particles from the air before it goes back into the room. The filters are long-lasting if you maintain them correctly.
Cleaning the HEPA filter works the same for the V8 and the V10. With the V8, you have to pull it out of the engine area from above. With the V10, it sits on the back.
Once you pull out the filter, you can tap it out and wash it from time to time.
The filters have a long service life. You’ll save money and protect the environment at the same time.
The Maintenance of the Battery
You basically won’t have to do anything for maintaining the battery. The manufacturer states that both devices’ battery lasts 10 years, but they don’t give a warranty for that. The good thing is that if it breaks or the performance declines, you can remove it and replace it in a few steps.
Dyson V8 vs Dyson V10 Absolute Comparison - UK (2022): Price-Performance and Conclusion
We revealed many advantages of Dyson’s cordless vacuums in this Dyson V8 vs Dyson V10 comparison.
Especially the user-friendliness was extraordinary.
The Dyson V8 is a premium vacuum, and the price is relatively low now.
It works great as a second device or as an addition to a robot hoover. No matter what your flat looks like, you’ll be able to clean it with the V8.
The V8 was on par with the V10 in almost all cleaning tests. It only reached its limits with coarse dirt on hard floors.
The accessories are almost the same. However, the electric brush of the V10 is better than the standard brush of the V8. The newer brush is an all-rounder that can you can use for any floor. The standard brush of the V8, on the other hand, has some difficulties on hard floors.
If your budget allows it and you're prepared to dig a little deeper into your pockets, we'd recommend the Dyson V10.
The V10 is one of the best cordless vacuums we’ve tested so far.
It scores with extremely powerful suction and the best cleaning performance.
They also improved the design of the V10 immensely compared to that of the V8. The emptying function is much more efficient. This is a huge advantage, especially for allergy sufferers.
