The Roborock S5 Max is one of the most popular robot vacuums in UK. Its outstanding performance, combined with an unbeatable price, makes the "perfect all-rounder" a worthy device in the fight against pet hair.
We’re having a hard time criticising the Roborock vacuum robot.
The suction power on laminate and carpets convinced us in the cleaning tests. Thanks to the strong suction, the robot vacuum hardly reaches its limits with cat or dog hair.
A few hairs wrap around the main brush from time to time.
But it’s super easy to disassemble the combo-brush. You can quickly remove the long hairs from the brush with the cleaning tool provided.
The Roborock S5 Max also is a vacuum robot with a mopping function. It vacuums and mops the floors at the same time.
A wiping function ensures more cleanliness, especially in households with pets, and is a great advantage.
The volume of the Roborock S5 Max is pleasant. You can choose from 4 different modes.
- Quiet: 50 dB
- Balance: 55 dB
- Turbo: 60 dB
- MAX: 65 dB
You can lower the volume when vacuuming if you have an anxious pet.
Roborock offers an excellent "all-rounder robot vacuum" that can cope well with pet owners’ special requirements at an almost unbeatable price.
You’ll definitely get your money’s worth with the Roborock S5 Max robot vacuum. It can handle pet hair and other special requirements of pet owners.

Roborock S5 Max vs Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950: Which robot vacuum cleans better? Our Review and Comparison.
We checked how well these two premium robot vacuums could cope with our dirty challenges in our cleaning battle of the Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950 vs. Roborock S5 Max.
The two robotic vacuums have to clean up a specific amount of various dirt types on different surfaces (hard floor and carpet).
We also looked at how both models manage everyday cleaning in our home over a more extended period.

Suction test on hard floors
Both robot vacuums did a great job on hard floors.
But the Roborock S5 Max is slightly ahead of the Deebot OZMO 950 (96% vs 92%).
All in all, if you have laminate floors at home, you'll be thrilled with both vacuums.

Suction test on carpet
The two premium robot vacuums were also convincing on the carpet.
Roborock S5 Max | Deebot OZMO 950
Low pile carpet | 84% | 87% |
High pile carpet | 88% | 91% |
Both models have a good carpet detection function.
A nice feature: the OZMO 950 not only detect carpets but also marks them on the map. You can see them on the map.
That makes it much easier to define no-go zones on the map or set up spot-cleaning areas for the carpet, for example.
Even though the Deebot OZMO 950 has a lower suction power (1500 Pa. vs 2000 Pa.), it achieved a slightly better cleaning result.

Everyday floor cleaning
Next, we checked how these two robot vacuums perform during everyday floor cleaning in our flat over a longer period.
Both the Roborock S5 Max and the Deebot OZMO 950 came out with flying colours.
You can choose from 4 different suction modes with both robotic vacuum cleaners, which is very practical.
The mobile dust bin of the Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950 is slightly smaller, but it has a practical carrying handle and a dust retention flap.
That makes the container’s removal, transport, and emptying a bit more practical than with the Roborock S5 Max.
The models deal slightly different with pet hair/long human hair.
It’s pretty common for most robot vacuum models that long hairs wrap around the main brush. You have to remove them from time to time.
The Roborock S5 Max has a cleaning tool for this.
It’s also easy to disassemble the main brush, around which the hair usually wraps.
Thus, you can remove hair quickly and reliably.
The Deebot OZMO 950 also has a cleaning tool.
But you can’t disassemble the main brush at either end, making hair removal a little more cumbersome.
Instead, Ecovacs included a special suction attachment (without cleaning brush).
This attachment sucks in the hair immediately, so it can’t wrap around a brush. Good news for pet owners!
Conclusion on the cleaning test
We were delighted with the outstanding cleaning performance of both robot vacuums.
We had a hard time identifying a clear winner.
If you have many carpets, the Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950 might be the better choice. It’s slightly ahead of the Roborock S5 Max thanks to the sophisticated carpet detection function and the somewhat better cleaning result on short and long pile carpets.
If you have mostly hard floors at home, you will be more than satisfied with either of these two models.
Deebot OZMO 950 vs Roborock S5 Max: Which robot mops better? Our review!
In the Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950 vs Roborock S5 Max comparison, we also took a closer look at the two devices’ mopping function.

Both devices are so-called “mop and vacuum combo” (2-in-1 hybrids). It means that the smart robot vacuum and mop your floors in one go.
It continuously supplies a mop with water via the water tank.
To activate the mopping function, simply fill the water tank and attach the wiping plate (with attached wiping cloth) to the water tank. Then you - or rather, it - can get started.
You can conveniently set the water intensity via the mobile app (even for each room individually). You can choose from 4 different levels.
You should observe the smart robot closely during its first few mopping trips. Then you’ll see which water flow is necessary for the best cleaning result.
Reusable mop and water tank
The Roborock S5 Max and Deebot OZMO 950 each come with a reusable mop.
Both mopping pads do their jobs well, but the Deebot OZMO 950’s wipe is a little more fluffy and has a slightly better quality.
The OZMO 950’s mop also extends over the entire width of the mop plate. The mop of the Roborock S5 Max leaves some space uncovered on the left and right. Thus, the mop track of the S5 Max is slightly smaller than that of the Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950.
The water tank of Roborock S5 Max is larger than Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950’s water tank (300 ml vs 200 ml). Therefore, Roborock S5 Max can mop a larger area in one go (without refilling the water tank).
Waterproof protection pad of the Roborock S5 Max
It’s a great plus that the Roborock S5 Max has a protection pad for the charging dock.
When the robot vacuum returns to the docking station after mopping, the floor won’t be affected by the wet mop.
Unfortunately, the Deebot OZMO 950 doesn’t come with such a protection mat. You have to place the docking station on a non-sensitive floor (e.g. tiles) or remove the water tank (including wet wipe) directly after cleaning.
But you could also conveniently buy a protection mat online.
The OZMO 950’s carpet detection function
The Deebot OZMO 950 makes up for the missing protection pad with its sophisticated carpet detection function.
It reliably avoids carpets once you activate the mopping function.
This way, it won’t drag the dirty mop across your clean carpet.
The Roborock S5 Max can’t offer that.
Conclusion
The mopping function of both models is on par.
S5 Max
OZMO 950
With it, the robot vacuum frees your floors from light dirt and dust residues.
The flat will seem even cleaner after mopping.
Then we can get rid of the mop and won’t have to wipe the floor by hand, right?
Unfortunately, not yet.
The robot vacuum’s weight is too low. It can’t put enough pressure on the mop to remove very stubborn stains. But we still think that robotic vacuums with mopping function take a massive burden off your shoulders. If you let the little household helper mop several times a week, you won’t have to clean the floor by hand that often.
To improve the performance, we recommend using the following two tricks before each mopping:
- Dampen the mop with water. Then it will leave a damp track from the very beginning (otherwise, it takes a few minutes until the mop is thoroughly soaked with water).
- Put some detergent in the water tank / on the mop (available* on Amazon UK). That’ll give you a tad more cleanliness.
Tip 1: Dampen the cloth
Tip 2: Add detergent

Deebot OZMO 950 vs Roborock S5 Max: App

You can control both the Roborock S5 Max and the Ecovacs Deebot (iOS / Android ) OZMO 950 via an app.
Roborock App
Ecovacs Home App
You’re spoilt for choice with 2 apps for the Roborock S5 Max
You can choose between the Roborock App (Android / iOS) and the Xiaomi Home App (Android / iOS).
The apps are almost identical in terms of functionality and design.
The in-house Roborock app worked perfectly fine for us. The manufacturer is very flexible and releases regular updates (bug fixes/new functionalities).
If you have several smart home devices from Xiaomi, the Xiaomi Home App might be more practical. Then you can control all devices via one single mobile app. A slight disadvantage: they release updates with bug fixes and new functions somewhat delayed.
Scope of functions
Both mobile apps (Roborock App and Ecovacs Home App) offer many valuable functions and setting options.

The comparison shows that both apps are pretty similar in their range of functions.
They differ in two points only:
- With Roborock S5 Max, you can save 4 maps (vs 2 maps with the Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950).
- The Ecovacs Home App has a more sophisticated carpet detection function. It detects and marks carpets on the map (vs Roborock S5 Max -> it detects carpets but doesn’t mark them on the map).
The design and logical setup of the apps are also alike.
Both apps are very user-friendly, straightforward and intuitive. Even the "non-technicians" will quickly get the hang of both mobile phone apps.
Ecovacs Home app has also some minor bugs. These bugs reduce the overall rating of this app.
Roborock S5 Max vs Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950: Navigation
We definitely can’t leave out “Navigation“ in our Roborock S5 Max vs Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950 comparison.
It’s one of the critical ingredients for a good cleaning result.

Both robotic vacuum cleaners use seamless laser navigation (lidar).
Thanks to the laser detection sensor (LDS) they always know where they want to go next and drive seamlessly through the flat. Neither of these two smart robots will leave out a single spot / room during cleaning.
Roborock S5 Max and the Deebot OZMO 950 are relatively fast. The Roborock S5 Max was a tad faster in our 80m² flat.
Navigation time S5 Max
Navigation time OZMO 950
The Ecovacs Deebot 950 also has troubles catching up with the Roborock S5 Max when dealing with obstacles.
Roborock S5 Max handles obstacles very carefully. It only slightly bumps into objects, if it touches them at all.
Ecovac's Deebot OZMO 950 uses the bumper a little more often and moves a bit roughly.
The Roborock S5 Max is more of a climber (2 cm / 0.8 inches) when overcoming obstacles (vs OZMO 950 approx. 1.7 - 1.8 cm (0.7 inches)). However, both premium robots can easily overcome conventional doorsteps.
Long story short: Both robot vacuums have excellent navigation.
We preferred the navigation and driving style of the Roborock S5 Max. It’s a little faster, and the navigation seems a bit smoother and more structured than that of the Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950.

Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950 vs Roborock S5 Max: Noise Level
You can choose from 4 different power modes with both devices.
The robot vacuum’s volume depends on the selected mode.
Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950 vs Roborock S5 Max: Noise Level

Quiet | 50 dB | 45 dB |
Balanced | 55 dB | 55 dB |

The Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950 is the winner here.
The Deebot OZMO 950 was a tad quieter than the Roborock S5 Max, especially in the higher suction levels.
Design, dimensions and weight
Both cleaning robots have almost identical dimensions.
They are slightly different in height, but that doesn’t matter much.
Roborock S5 Max | Deebot OZMO 950
Dimensions | Height: 9.65 cm (3.8 inches). Diameter: 35 cm (13.8 inches) | Height: 9.3 cm (3.6 inches). Diameter: 35 cm (13.8 inches) |
Weight | 3.5 kg | 4.5 kg |
Colour | Black and white | Black |
You can get the Roborock S5 Max in the UK in black or white (vs the Deebot OZMO 950 only in black).
The robot vacuums look very similar from above. The Roborock S5 Max has a few more control buttons - (1) Start/Stop, (2) Return to charging station. Since you usually control the smart robot via the mobile app, this isn’t a big deal.
It’s pretty similar if you open the lid. You’ll see the mobile dustbin and a safely stored cleaning tool.
If you flip the robot vacuums around, the two models are also very similar.
The Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950 has two side brushes (vs Roborock S5 Max: 1 side brush). Otherwise, the sensors, rollers, main cleaning brush and mop are in the same place on both models.
The charging dock also don’t differ much in size.
The advantage of the Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950 docking station:
It has a cable management system in the back.
You can roll up the excess power cable so that it won’t lie around in the room.
Both robot vacuums are of high quality. Even after more extended use, we didn’t have any problems with either model.
Delivery scope
When comparing the Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950 vs Roborock S5 Max’s delivery scope, you’ll quickly see that the OZMO 950 comes with a lot more spare parts and accessories.
Roborock S5 Max
Deebot OZMO 950
The Roborock S5 Max only has the absolute essentials. The floor protection pad for the charging station is a good feature, though.
The Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950 comes with a range of spare parts and accessories: 2 x replacement side brushes, disposable wipes, 1x replacement HEPA filter and another special suction attachment for hair.
It’s pretty obvious: The point goes to the Deebot OZMO 950 here.
If you're looking for spare parts for a robot vacuum cleaner, Amazon UK can be a good place to find them.
Price comparison
Both models are in the mid-range price segment (depending on the offer, even below that).
Thus, both models have an excellent price-performance ratio.
There are hardly any comparable models on the market that offer better value for money.
